Black Teas

Black tea, commonly known as hóngchá, or red tea in China, comes from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant.  It is a type of tea that is more oxidized and stronger in flavor when compared to green, white, or oolong teas.  A brewed black tea can range in color from amber to red to dark brown, with its flavor profile ranging anywhere from malty, nutty, and sweet to smoky, earthy, and brisk.  Black tea is one of the most popular teas in the entire world; it accounts for over 90% of all tea sold in the West.

Black tea is good for the heart and is considered a gentle stimulant.  It also helps in lowering cholesterol and preventing tooth decay.
